Mais pourquoi est-ce que les grenouilles portent bonheur au Japon ? C’est parce que grenouille se prononce “kaeru” en japonais, tout comme le verbe “revenir”. Fuku kaeru, le nom de cette kokeshi, c’est donc à la fois “grenouille porte-bonheur” et “le retour du bonheur/de la chance”.

But why do frogs bring good luck in Japan? It's because frogs are pronounced 'kaeru' in Japanese, just like the verb 'to return'. Fuku kaeru, the name of this kokeshi, therefore means both "lucky frog" and "the return of happiness/luck".
