Comment sont fabriquées les kokeshis ?

Vous êtes-vous déjà demandé comment les kokeshis étaient fabriquées ? J'ai eu la chance de visiter de nombreux ateliers d'artisans, parfois de les voir en action, en train de créer une kokeshi. Le processus de production se fait en nombreuses étapes, et entièrement à la main -  et toujours par la même personne. Et comme les images sont bien plus parlantes, voici le processus de fabrication en photos !

Have you ever wondered about the production process of kokeshi dolls? I am lucky enough to live in Japan and visit many artisans workshops, even sometimes see them at work, creating a kokeshi doll. The making is a succession of many steps, all made entirely by hand - and always by the same person. Because pictures often serve better than words, here is the whole kokeshi making in photos!

Le tour à bois, et des pièces pré-gougées qui deviendront des corps de kokeshi. / The lathe and behind, wood already cut and shaped into workable pieces, that will be kokeshi bodies.

Le corps de la poupée est fixé sur le tour à bois au marteau. / The body is hammered onto the lathe.

Le bois est travaillé à l'aide de gouges et de papier de verre. / The body is shaped with woodworking tools and sandpapers.

Après avoir préparé le corps, c'est la tête de la kokeshi qui est formée sur le tour à bois. La tête et le corps de la poupée sont fixés ensemble de manière différente selon le genre et le style de la poupée kokeshi.

After preparing the body, the head is made in the same way, on the lathe. Head and body are connected in different ways according to the kokeshi type and style.

Les décorations sont finies. / The painting part is over.

Finition à la cire d'abeille, qui rend la kokeshi légèrement lustrée. / Bee wax is applied and will give a sublte shiny finish to the doll.

Assemblage de la poupée kokeshi, d'abord par friction, sur le tour, et finition au marteau. / The head is first fixed on the body by friction, with the lathe turning, and then hammered solidly.

Sato Yasuhiro signe la kokeshi - c'est la toute dernière étape. / Last touch: Sato Yasuhiro signs his name under the doll.
